Finmedia and Top Lawyers distinguished Popovici Nitu & Asociatii for M&A, Competition & Antitrust and Litigation & Arbitration

Popovici Nițu & Asociații received three excellence awards for outstanding legal work in M&A, Competition & Antitrust and Litigation & Arbitration in 2010 at Top Lawyers Gala, organized by Finmedia on June 29, 2011.

In the M&A field, the Firm was recognized as the Number 1 Transactional Law Firm in Romania, by the number of deals successfully concluded. In 2010, Popovici Nițu & Asociații was involved in 21 deals and other joint ventures, attempted acquisitions and corporate restructuring in various industries such as Energy, Healthcare, Retail, IT, Financial Services, Telecom and Real Estate.

Popovici Nițu & Asociații advised, among others, (i) the largest real estate investor in CEE on the acquisition of the companies owning Polus Constanta, Euromall Galati and West Gate Mall retail projects, (ii) Auchan on the acquisition (in a 50-50 partnership with Belrom) of a land plot in Craiova (Electroputere Industrial Platform) for the development of a retail centre, (iii) a group of French and Swiss investors on the acquisition of two wind farms, with a total power exceeding 190 MW, (iv) Innova Capital on the acquisition of Datek Telecom and Rokor Ecostyle, (v) Scop Computers on the sale of 50.96% shares to ABC Data and (vi) MedLife on the acquisition of 80% of the share capital of Medis Brasov and of a local company involved in the development of private hospital.

In the Competition & Antitrust field, the Firm was awarded for representing high-level clients in front of the Competition Council in an impressive number of mandates in key industries. Popovici Nițu & Asociații advised (i) Aviva on the investigations launched by the Competition Council regarding an alleged price fixing and allocation of customers cartel on the market for privately managed pension funds, (ii) Romanian Football Federation in connection with the commitments offered and accepted by the Competition Council regarding the joint sale of trading rights over football matches and (iii) ArcelorMittal on the investigations launched by the Competition Council related to an alleged abuse of dominant position and restrictive practices on the steel market.

In the Litigation & Arbitration field, the Firm was recognized for representing (i) the largest real estate investor in CEE in over 100 fiscal, commercial, corporate and real estate disputes, (ii) Fondul Proprietatea in over 50 corporate disputes as well as for (iii) ICC Paris ongoing cases, ICSID procedures and various local arbitrations.
